I recently tried on the Oakley Meta Glasses at the Oakley store in Florida Mall. Tristan, one of the staff members, had bought his own pair and kindly let me test them. Within seconds, I could tell these glasses are going to be something special.
The audio stood out immediately. Both the Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses use two open-ear speakers, but the Oakleys sounded richer, clearer, and more immersive. The difference was noticeable straight away. For someone like me who relies heavily on audio for navigation and apps like Be My Eyes, this improvement really matters.
On paper, both models also feature a five-microphone array for capturing sound. But the Oakleys seemed to pick up and process audio with more clarity, likely due to better acoustic tuning and the design of the frame. Combined with the improved speakers, the Oakleys simply delivered a better all-round listening and speaking experience.
The video quality has been upgraded too, now offering sharper 3K recording. For remote support, that means more detail and smoother video for the person on the other end. Add in the extended battery life—roughly double that of the Ray-Bans—and it feels like the Oakleys are designed for more serious, all-day use.
I picked up the first edition white model, only recently launched in the US. I had them delivered to the store, but held off on setting them up right there, as I wanted to avoid any possible region-locking issues. I’ll be setting them up fully once back in the UK, and I’ll share a more detailed accessibility review then.
