Visual Awareness Training
Our Visual Awareness Training will teach your teams how best to interact with Blind and Partially Sighted people as customers or colleagues.
Over two million people in the UK live with sight loss. That’s around one person in thirty. Of these, around three-hundred-and-sixty-thousand people are registered with their local authority as Blind or Partially Sighted. It is predicted that by 2020 the number of people with sight loss will rise to over two-and-quarter-million. (Source: RNIB).
Our Visual Awareness training adds impact by:
- Being interactive, using visual awareness simulation exercises to give participants insight into the experience of severely sight impaired or partially sighted people using your service. This practical experience is more likely to stick in the participant’s memory and trigger the learning back at work.
- Utilising Lived Experience Trainers – Our lead trainer and Managing Director Seema Flower is registered blind herself and was voted one of the Power 100 most influential disabled people in the UK by the Shaw Trust 2020.
- Chocolate (or non-diary/nut equivalent) may be involved to show how important sight is and the huge impact it has when it is lost. You’ll be amazed.
- Stimulating group discussion brings out team members’ experiences and thoughts for discussion in a safe space.
- Some group members may never have met a visually impaired person – it can be surprising to find that we’re not all quiet and retiring.
Our training is tailored towards your organisation type and sector to match your exact requirements.
We always recommend In-person training where possible. We believe that taking participants away from their normal environment helps them absorb the training on a deeper level. We can also roleplay scenarios and plan physical exercises (sighted guiding for example) which again breaks up the training and is more deeply absorbed.
We recognise that sometimes in-person training is not possible for teams who may be nationally or globally dispersed, therefore we have perfected programs for training delivery via video streaming platforms (Zoom, Teams etc) for these circumstances.
