“Dare to Dream” – Seema Flower Inspires at Merchant Taylors’ Hall

A chalkboard-style digital graphic features an inspiring quote by Seema Flower in bold white text: “When you stop seeing barriers as blocks and start seeing them as steps, that’s when the impossible becomes possible.” To the right of the text is a chalk drawing of ascending steps. Below the quote is Seema Flower’s name in script font and the Blind Ambition logo in red and white. The background resembles a classroom blackboard, creating a motivational and educational atmosphere.

Yesterday, in the prestigious setting of Merchant Taylors’ Hall in the City of London, Seema Flower, founder of Blind Ambition, delivered a moving keynote address to students from the Merchant Taylors’ schools.

As a blind entrepreneur and national voice for disability inclusion, Seema’s presence alone is an act of inspiration. Her keynote, centred around the power of positivity, self-belief, and daring to achieve the impossible, struck a chord with every young person in the room.

The Power of Belonging

Drawing from her own lived experience and her work through Blind Ambition, Seema spoke about the deep human need to belong — and what happens when the world doesn’t create space for you.

“Not all spaces are meant for you. Belonging starts within. You can create your own new spaces.”

Students were encouraged to lead with authenticity and to understand that being different is not a disadvantage — it is often a superpower.

Resilience, Advocacy and the Courage to Speak Out

In one of the most powerful moments of the event, Seema reflected on the importance of using your voice:

“Everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and treated fairly. Silence protects systems, not people.”

Her message was clear: being an advocate — whether for yourself or others — is not just an act of courage but a tool for justice, change, and unity.

Education as the Equaliser

Education, Seema reminded students, is one of the few things in life that can never be taken away. She quoted Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, blending global wisdom with practical advice.

“When you stop seeing barriers as blocks and start seeing them as steps, that’s when the impossible becomes possible.” – Seema Flower

Her story is living proof of that truth.

A Lasting Impression

Lara Gee from Champions UK plc, who supported the event, shared this glowing feedback:

“Seema was incredible, I cannot rate her highly enough. She spoke with authenticity about the challenges she has found in ‘belonging’ and helped the student audience to understand what it would be like to do everyday things without our sight. She talked about societal expectations in terms of her disability, gender, and ethnicity, and came across as a strong and empowered individual who has been incredibly successful despite her adversity. She now champions others with disabilities to follow their dreams, and her initiative to empower others was inspiring. She was an excellent public speaker — charismatic, friendly, and warm.”

About Blind Ambition

Seema also introduced the students to her award-winning consultancy, Blind Ambition — a company that empowers blind and partially sighted people to thrive and helps organisations build truly inclusive environments.

Blind Ambition delivers training, advocacy, and employment initiatives that enable disabled people to access the workplace and live with dignity and independence. The team also works with companies to help them unlock the value of inclusive recruitment and service delivery.

A Message That Will Last

As the keynote speaker at this special event, Seema Flower didn’t just speak to the students — she ignited something in them. A belief that adversity is not the end of the story. That dreams are valid, and with resilience, anything is possible.
