Breaking Barriers at HAUC 2025: Building a More Inclusive Future for Street Works

Seema with Clive Bairsto Street Works UK Chief Executive

This week, Seema Flower, Founder and Managing Director of Blind Ambition, had the pleasure of attending the HAUC(UK) 2025 Convention – and what an inspiring day it was!

It was fantastic to connect with so many professionals from across the highways and utilities sectors, all of whom are playing a key role in shaping the future of our streets. What stood out most was the growing awareness around the importance of accessibility in street works – and a genuine desire to do better for disabled and vulnerable road users.

We were especially honoured to receive a warm invitation from Clive Bairsto – Street Works UK Chief Executive Officer and Chairman – to attend the HAUC committee meeting on the 1st April. Seema had the opportunity to introduce key concepts around accessibility in street works and engage directly with committee members, answering questions and sharing examples of practical, low-cost adaptations that can make a huge difference to safety and inclusivity on-site.

At Blind Ambition, we believe that accessibility is not just a compliance issue – it’s a safety issue. Whether it’s a blocked pavement, unclear signage, or poorly managed diversions, inaccessible worksites can pose serious risks for people with disabilities. It was refreshing to meet organisations ready to face that reality and take real steps towards change.

From Street Works Accessibility Champion training to live on-site guidance and Stand Down Day sessions, we’re looking forward to working with some of the biggest names in the sector to embed inclusion into everyday practice. And yes – we plan to keep the learning engaging, hands-on, and even fun.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by and chat with us. The road ahead is exciting, and we’re proud to be helping pave the way – one kerb, sign, and safety barrier at a time.

If you’d like to learn more about how we can help your teams improve accessibility during roadworks, get in touch with Seema at seema@blindambition.co.uk or visit our website at www.blindambition.co.uk.

Let’s make street works safe and accessible for all.
