Today, at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole, the Street Works UK Conference 2025 brought together industry leaders, innovators, and policy experts to explore how collaboration can build safer, more inclusive streets for all.
Seema Flower, Founder and Managing Director of Blind Ambition, was delighted to be part of this year’s event, speaking on a panel about accessibility and inclusion within the Street Works industry. Representing the lived experiences of blind and partially sighted people, Seema championed the importance of designing and delivering street works that are truly safe for everyone — not just compliant on paper.
Seema was also proud to be there alongside UIS Tooling & Technologies, with whom Blind Ambition has partnered to improve accessibility in street works. Together, they showcased the Safe Passage Ramp (SPR) — a pioneering new design developed in collaboration with Severn Trent and P.F. Cusack. The SPR provides a secure and stable crossing for pedestrians, prioritising safety for blind and partially sighted people and those using mobility aids.
“It was a real pleasure to demonstrate the new Safe Passage Ramp to delegates today,” said Seema. “UIS has done a remarkable job designing a product that not only meets the operational needs of the industry but also considers the human experience — particularly for disabled and vulnerable pedestrians. It’s a clear example of what can be achieved when engineering excellence meets lived experience.”
The event reflected the Street Works sector’s ongoing commitment to innovation, safety, and inclusion. Seema expressed her admiration for the industry’s openness to progress:
