Gregg Wallace Report Confirms 45 Allegations Upheld, Including Sexual and Racist Misconduct — Seema Flower Responds

An independent investigation into BBC’s MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace has today, Monday 14 July, upheld 45 allegations of misconduct, including incidents of unwelcome physical contact and three occasions where Wallace was found to be in a state of undress in the workplace. The findings cover a 19-year period and include a wider pattern of sexually inappropriate language, racist remarks, and culturally insensitive behaviour.

The inquiry, conducted by an independent law firm commissioned by MasterChef producers Banijay, followed a BBC News investigation that first uncovered widespread claims of inappropriate behaviour by Wallace. In total, 83 allegations were examined, with most of the substantiated ones relating to sexualised language and inappropriate humour.

Despite insisting that he has been “cleared of the most serious and sensational allegations,” Wallace has faced a strong backlash for appearing to link his recent autism diagnosis with the misconduct.

Seema Flower: “Autism Is Not a Shield”

Among the voices calling for accountability is Seema Flower, founder of Blind Ambition, who said:

“To use autism as an excuse to behave inappropriately is very, very poor. It’s damaging — not just to autistic people, but to the wider disabled community. We all deserve to be held to the same standards of accountability.”

While the report notes Wallace’s diagnosis as context for some of his behaviours, it clearly states that he “does not wish to hide behind it.” Still, the wider disability and neurodivergent communities have expressed concern about how the diagnosis has been presented — and potentially weaponised — in the media narrative.

A Wake-Up Call for the Creative Industries

The report also found that six complaints were made to Banijay and another six to the BBC between 2005 and 2024. Banijay’s CEO, Patrick Holland, admitted that escalation procedures had previously failed, saying:

“We are extremely sorry to anyone who has been impacted by this behaviour and felt unable to speak up at the time.”

The BBC also released a statement acknowledging “missed opportunities” to act and confirmed that it has no plans to work with Wallace again.

Philippa Childs, head of the Bectu union, condemned the industry’s failure to act over many years, noting:

“Misogyny, intimidation, ageism and sexual harassment should have no place in modern workplaces.”

How Blind Ambition Can Help

At Blind Ambition, we believe in creating safe, inclusive spaces — where everyone, regardless of background, disability, gender, age, or ethnicity, can thrive and feel respected.

This report is a reminder that accountability is essential — but so is prevention.

That’s why we offer a range of disability inclusion and diversity training programmes designed to help organisations create cultures where poor behaviour is challenged and diversity is celebrated.

We know that companies that are more diverse are stronger because of it, and we hope to play a small part in helping employers become more inclusive and more welcoming. Whether it’s training on neurodiversity, accessible recruitment, inclusive leadership, or safeguarding freelancers, Blind Ambition is here to support your journey.

As Seema Flower puts it:

“This should be a turning point. Disabled people, women, freelancers — we are often the first to suffer when power is abused. Accountability must apply to everyone, no matter how famous or long-standing.”

Let’s use this moment to build workplaces we can all be proud of.
