We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Clive Bairsto and the Street Works UK team for inviting us to the incredible Street Works UK Awards 2024. Held at the prestigious House of Commons Members’ Dining Room, the evening was an inspiring celebration of innovation and excellence within the street works sector.
It was a pleasure for Seema Flower, Managing Director of Blind Ambition, to attend the event as a new member of HAUC UK (Highways Authorities and Utilities Committee). The opportunity to connect with industry leaders and innovators, while celebrating the outstanding achievements across the sector, was truly inspiring.
One of the highlights of the evening was the conversation around accessibility. Seema used this platform to champion the importance of making street works accessible to everyone, especially those with disabilities. With her extensive experience in disability inclusion, Seema highlighted the challenges faced by disabled individuals navigating roadworks and public spaces, and the vital role the street works sector plays in creating safer, more accessible environments for all.
The night also brought exciting discussions about the Blind Ambition Accessibility Award, which we hope will debut at next year’s event. This award would recognise street works contractors and companies that have made significant strides in improving accessibility in their projects—whether through technical innovations, training programs, or other initiatives designed to create more inclusive environments for disabled road users.
We are thrilled to have been part of this prestigious event and look forward to working closely with Clive and the Street Works UK team to bring this important award to life. Recognising companies that prioritise accessibility will not only spark industry-wide change but also make a lasting impact on how our public spaces serve all members of society.
Thank you again, Clive, for the warm welcome and for your ongoing efforts to drive positive change across the industry. Together, we look forward to seeing the future of street works becoming even more inclusive and accessible.
