Today, Blind Ambition is thrilled to participate in the Street Works UK Annual Conference 2024 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. This year’s theme, “The Road Ahead – Making Street Works Work,” focuses on the critical role that the street works sector plays in supporting the UK’s infrastructure, economic growth, and Net Zero goals. Industry leaders, government officials, and sector partners are coming together to discuss the future of street works, innovation, and skills development, making this event a fantastic opportunity for collaboration and insight.
As part of our mission to promote accessibility and inclusion, Blind Ambition will be hosting a stand at the conference to raise awareness about disability inclusion within the street works sector. Our goal is to shine a light on the importance of creating accessible environments, especially in spaces that impact everyone’s daily lives, such as street and road works.
Seema Flower, the founder and Managing Director of Blind Ambition, shared her excitement about participating in this influential event:
“The Street Works UK Conference is an invaluable opportunity for us to connect with leaders in the sector and emphasize the need for disability awareness and inclusivity in public infrastructure projects. We believe that by working together, we can make street works safer and more accessible for everyone, particularly for those with disabilities. Inclusion isn’t just a goal; it’s essential for a truly functional society.”
Raising Awareness and Driving Change
At the Blind Ambition stand, we will be engaging with delegates to discuss practical ways to integrate disability awareness into the planning, execution, and management of street works. Our team will provide information on how inclusive practices benefit not only individuals with disabilities but also enhance the overall effectiveness and safety of street work operations. From the design of accessible pathways to the use of communication tools for visually impaired individuals, there are countless ways the sector can improve accessibility.Practical Tools and Training Opportunities
In addition to raising awareness, Blind Ambition is showcasing our training programs tailored specifically for teams in the street works sector. These programs cover:- Train-the-Trainer (TTT) Program: Ideal for building a network of Accessibility Champions within organisations, equipping internal staff with the skills and knowledge to foster inclusion across all projects.
- Bespoke Training Sessions: Targeted, customised training sessions that address specific needs within the street works sector, with a focus on accessibility considerations.
- Lunch and Learn Sessions: Informal, short sessions for staff interested in deepening their understanding of disability awareness and inclusion.
“Our training programs offer a flexible approach that can be tailored to fit each organisation’s needs. Whether it’s a comprehensive program or a few impactful workshops, we’re here to support the industry in making real strides towards inclusivity.”
