UK Disability History Month is observed from November 16th to December 16th and is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about the history, experiences, and achievements of individuals with disabilities. It is a time to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of the disability rights movement and to honour the contributions of disabled individuals throughout history.
In today's dynamic employment landscape, where individuals are working longer than ever, it is essential to adapt to changes in health, including visual impairments. Blind Ambition, led by the remarkable Seema Flower, is at the forefront of providing vital support and resources to address these challenges.
Seema Flower, Founder and Managing Director of Blind Ambition is an inspiring example of triumphing over challenges and achieving success in the workplace despite visual impairments. Her consultancy advocates for workplace equality, focusing on individuals with visual impairments' unique needs.
Seema says, "UK Disability Awareness Months encourage us to reflect on how far we have come regarding disability rights and accessibility but also reminds us of the work that still needs to be done."
In addition, today, December 3rd 2024, The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is taking place — an annual event founded by the United Nations. The day highlights awareness and support for the rights, well-being, and inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society, including sight loss. This year's theme is "United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities." We'll be sharing more in the run-up to the awareness day.
